Jack Ma has been one of the most influential personalities for me since a long time, not just because of the fact that he is a billionaire or owns one of the biggest e-commerce empires in the world, but because of his principles, values and most importantly his ‘strategy for life’.
We all wish and demand for innumerable things at each and every stage of our lives and never really enjoy and appreciate the process of getting that thing, once we somehow finally get it, or reach at a certain stage in life. We constantly complain and compare, until we realize that we have lost the chance to connect the dots of our lives. A very important aspect to ‘grow through’ and not just to ‘go through’ this phase comes into picture which is very crucial for the overall development.
Jack Ma once said, “Starting big and becoming big is being ‘stubborn’, but starting small and making big is a ‘mindset’.” Meaning, you can jump to do big things, which is actually being too narrow as it could at times, turn up very good in terms of achieving the goal but at the same time make the situation worse in terms of losing a fortune. On the other side, starting small requires a mindset which ultimately points towards being long term oriented and enjoying the process, bit by bit and day by day, crawling towards the goal. Thus there’s nothing to prove and nothing to lose.
Jack Ma’s success is not just about constructing and making the times better at Alibaba, but is also a long term commitment, a reliability and the end result of unshattered focus to find opportunity in those ‘small’ things where nobody would have ever thought to reach in the most sweetest of their dreams. It was too small and seemed lame to use those resources as a tool to re-engineer and finally give a green flag and always push to stay customer centric.
Jack Ma started his career as a school teacher and did many odd jobs some of which didn’t even let him in, like only ‘him’ and selected every other person who was standing in the queue. So much disappointment he has gone through as he shared his KFC hiring experience.
But it was the best thing since who knows a job at KFC or some small yet well paying firm could have become his comfort zone and he couldn’t have had recognized this vast ocean of e-commerce opportunity, a small wave in those times which is now a tsunami, actually creating a tremendous impact for all those small businesses to come alive and work on the surface, hand in hand with other giants, would have completely be gone for the Chinese to connect in a business prospect with the rest of the world. This platform brought in a revolution in the Chinese market.
His world not only revolves around the boosting of business and strategy, but also his manner to implement a health conscious approach in every possible venture. Here I remembered some off track statement of his in an interview in which he said that, “If you put bananas and money in front of monkeys, monkeys will choose bananas because monkeys do not know that money can buy a lot of bananas. In reality if you put money and health in front of people, people tend to choose money because too many people do not know that health can bring more money and happiness.” Nothing is more valuable than health. Again the most significant and influential strategy of life!
In the end, all that matters is to value rejection, your health which in turn reflects your potential to perform mentally, to move on and to eventually grow through the process which are some of the most important strategies which should be pinned to the top in the Book of Entrepreneurship.
