How India’s rich origin, history and heritage has helped me understand more about myself and the world

A very true fact indeed that a person without the proper knowledge of his own history and heritage will not be able to understand the other aligning factors and thus will be like a tree without its roots.

As far as this great land of India is concerned, it is one of the oldest civilizations on the planet and thus the history, culture and heritage has a lot of beautiful and interesting aspects which if one decides to understand, will take-up his/her whole life. One is not expected to know everything about a culture and heritage, but a basic understanding will help one know from where he/she belongs and what are the peculiar facts about his/her ancestors who have constructed such beautiful monuments, forts, works of arts, literature and the list goes on.

As someone hailing from the state of Maharashtra, I remember in my school we were taught about the life of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, who was one of the greatest warrior Kings of the 17th Century India . He quickly became my inspiration which later translated to further understanding of Maharashtra’s rich culture and history which gave me a strong understanding of various other aspects around me as well. As we read and know about people such as Veer Savarkar, Netaji Bose, Bhagat Singh, Lokmanya Tilak and many more, we become strong from inside and start living our life like they did. Their principles are imbibed into us.

The poems, shayri’s and texts written by the saints who touched this land, are still available with us which consists of a huge amount of spiritual and scientific knowledge, which is important to live a life of purpose and satisfaction. Not reading or knowing about these literatures, personalities, monuments and cultural aspects will make one shallow even if one achieves epitome of success.
