Population is a worry for many of the countries in the world. The world population is going to grow quite rapidly over the next few decades. The Population Reference Bureau, which is the world’s leading data producer and publisher of population statistics, says that the global population will hit 9.7 billion by 2050.
So why is population growth projected to rapidly accelerate? For one, the increasing global availability of cheap energy sources. In fact, the World Bank estimates that by 2050, 50% of the world will be powered by renewables.
The huge spike is also predicted because of the rapid medical advancements which is going to result in high life expectancy. Take for example India, the expectancy was around 40 years in the year 1960 which has now significantly leveled up to about 70 years.
